Why Visit the Kaibab Plateau?

Why visit Kaibab Plateau?
The Kaibab Plateau, an uplifted land formation, ranges 60m from north to south and 25m east to west and forms the northern Rim of the Grand Canyon. It is surrounded by giant cliffs and canyons while the north edge is more gently graded. The Kaibab plateau is a plateau on top of another plateau and has high elevations up to 9200ft without really having any mountains.
If you drive past Jacob Lake, you’ll see the remnants of the 2006 fire that burned 60,000 acres between Jacob Lake and DeMotte Park. But the flora is starting to come back and you’ll note a lot of new growth.
1.       Stop at the Visitor Center at Jacob Lake and learn about the natural and cultural resources of the plateau. Fill up with gas and grab something to eat.
2.       Le Fevre Overlook: stop here for a great view of the Grand Staircase and note all the rock layers!

3.       Check out the Arizona trail segment on FR 611. Admire all the hard work of the locals who dreamed and created this trail across the state, recognized as a National Scenic Trail in 2009.
4.       Drive to one of the viewpoints, maybe Crazy Jug, for some of the best Grand Canyon Views ever, really!
